Glad Nationaldag!

Today, June 6th, is Sweden's National Day! June 6th was chosen for two reasons, in 1523 Gustav Vasa was elected King, laying the ground work for Sweden to be come an independent state, and in 1809 Sweden adopted a new constitution. In 1916, the day was given the title of Flag Day, marking that Sweden had acquired its own flag after the separation from Norway. The day has been celebrated since 1983 as National Day, however it was not celebrated as a public holiday until 2004.

Today the royal family is participating in a variety of events throughout the country. However before we even get to those, let's look at the adorable photos that the Royal Court published this morning. These photos, taken by Kate Gabor, feature Estelle, Oscar, and Victoria out in the yard of Haga Palace. These photos have become a tradition every year, a photo of Estelle in the national dress has come out every year since she could walk. I cannot wait until Oscar is included wearing the Swedish National Dress as well- but for now we will have to settle for overalls.

In these photos, we see Victoria wearing a gold disk necklace, which reader Katrina has found to be from Dulong Fine Jewelry. This Danish brand is most associated with Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and Katrina suggested that perhaps it was a gift from Mary and Frederik to Victoria. I think it is a good possibility! Her dress is from Ralph Lauren (Thanks Ella!)

Oscar's overalls/dungarees come from Mayoral.

Next up in the day was Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia, and Prince Alexander opening the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
Sofia is wearing the national dress, without the head covering, and on her feet she is wearing a pair of black low heels with bows on the toe- which we first saw last year when visiting Värmland.

Next up in the day, was Victoria and Daniel attending a ceremony for new Swedish citizens receiving their passports. These kinds of ceremonies are held every year, all over the country, on National Day. Last year Victoria and Daniel also attended one in Uppsala.
For this, Victoria wore her English Garden Print Dress from Oscar de la Renta, carried her Abro woven clutch, and wore what appears to be Dior pumps. Her earrings are from Kreuger Jewellery and she wore a diamond pendant necklace, which was for the most part, hidden under her dress.

This evening, the family took a carriage ride down to the concert at Skansen and then will return to the Palace to participate in the tattoo ceremony with invited guests. (for some reason, Getty does not have any photos of the King and Queen in the carriage processional yet- but they were there!)

All the ladies are wearing the National Dress, established in 1983. The white folded caps on their heads are worn only when they are married, which makes this Sofia's first time wearing one. Estelle wore a braided crown on her head- typical for young girls. Sofia and Madeleine chose to wear non-traditional shoes, which normally results in an article griping about this in some tabloid. Let's save that discussion for a different place- so if you comment complaining about their shoes- I will remove it. Sofia wore the same shoes as she did this morning, and Madeleine wore a pair of black heels- which she wears every year. Sofia's earrings come from Engelbert Stockholm, while her sisters-in-law chose to wear diamonds and pearls.

Sophiahemmet for Sofia!

Today, Princess Sofia handed out the honors to Sophiasysters at Sophiahemmet- a private hospital in Stockholm. Sophiasysters are graduates of the Sophiahemmet University, a school for nurses to get their education. Once they have graduated to trained nurses they are called Sophiasyster or a "Sophia Sister". You may recall that Princess Sofia took over as Honorary President of the hospital, succeeding her Aunt-in-Law (if you would like to give it a label) Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnusson. Princess Christina was president from 1972 until the beginning of this year.

Sofia wore a new dress from Goat Fashion (Found by the Always Fabulous Rebecca). This red dress features a raised neck and near side bow, 3/4 length sleeves plus Goats signature side seam pockets. She paired it with her nude pumps from Kurt Geiger and diamond pave hoops from Engelbert Stockholm.

Don't forget that tomorrow is Prince Oscar's Christening! The Godparents were announced this morning (Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mette Marit, Princess Madeleine, Oscar Magnusson, and Hans Åstrom) and the guest list was released (sans Personal Friends and Court Staff). I will be up bright and early (actually it won't be bright when I get up...) and will be commenting live on Twitter and if you tune into Expressen you just might see me there as well. It is going to be a fabulous time and with the promise of 4/5 cousins in attendance you can be sure there will be some chaotic moments!

Sofia returns to Dalarna

Sofia and Carl Philip undertook a 2 day visit to Dalarna on October 5-6. I am going to break it down by days.

First Day:

Sofia and Carl Philip started off their visit by visiting a school in Borlänge for refugees. They seemed quite at home with the children and Sofia ended up carrying one around for a bit. Next they visited Dalform, a factory that manufactures lockers and storage spaces for schools. Next they visited Skedvibröd where Sofia tried her hand a making flat bread.

After they had lunch they continued on Falun's World Heritage house as well as Falun's Copper Mines. While in the mines, they were given the opportunity to sign their names on the wall- just as the King, Queen, and Crown Princess have done.

For the first day, Sofia wore a top from Zara and a red coat she *may have* borrowed from Victoria. The coat has long been speculated on its designer since Victoria wore it back in 2011, but nothing concrete has ever been decided. Ideas include Armani and Gant. The coat is from an old Gant Collection, a brand that Sofia has worn since before her marriage. This is why I am skeptical to say for certain she borrowed it from Victoria. Perhaps they both have it, perhaps Victoria borrowed it from Sofia- never the less they have both worn it and that is all we can be certain of. She once again wore boots from Gant and her Engelbert Diamond Hoop Earrings. In the arrival photos, you can see her carrying her black Longchamp bag.

Day 2:

Sofia and Carl Philip started their second day of their visit to Dalarna by touring I-Cell, a factory that makes environmentally friendly insulation. You can see a large photo gallery with descriptions here, and a bonus- it is in English!

For this half of the day, Sofia wore a dress from Indiska and coat from Zara. Her boots come from Gant.

Sofia and Carl Philip changed, and hopped in a helicopter to fly to the top of a local mountain which has a small community of Sami people.

For this part of the visit, Sofia (and Carl Philip) wore a hat from Woolisar, boots from Tretorn, and a jacket from Woolrich.

This photo was posted a few days later and I am unsure what day the dinner took place.

Global Child Forum in Pretoria

Princess Sofia is jumping in headfirst to taking on engagements by being the Royal Family's representation to the 2015 Global Child Forum in Pretoria, South Africa. If you don't already know, Global Child Forum is an initiative started by the King and Queen in 2009 with the intention of bringing leaders from all over the world and from a variety of industries and background together to make connections, create partnerships, and discuss topics surrounding Children's Rights. The first forum was held at Stockholm Palace in 2010 and since then they have held a variety of forums in satellite locations all over the world. In addition to holding these forums, Global Child Forum seeks to produce and coordinates studies to provide information on the topics of Children's Rights.

Princess Sofia arrived yesterday in Pretoria. She is wearing a top from Gant and her Peace Sign necklace from Sophie by Sophie.

Last night she also attended a dinner hosted by the Swedish Embassy in South Africa in connection with the forum. (A video and more photos can be seen here and here)

For this dinner she wore a dress from Armani (most notably seen in her first official photos, although she wore it to a Project Playground Fundraiser in 2013) with a pair of black heels (perhaps her Gant ones but I cannot tell). She wore her hair back in a ponytail and wore her Engelbert Diamond Hoop Earrings. She carried a small black quilted clutch which I do not recognize.

Today was the day of the actual forum in Pretoria. Sofia gave her first recorded speech as a Princess of Sweden and first in English. She did an amazing job. My personal favorite part of the speech was towards the end.
As long as children suffer we have work to do – as individuals and common commitment.
This is such an important point and she emphasized it wonderfully. If you would like to read the rest of her speech, which I highly recommend, you may do so here.
For the forum, Sofia wore a black pinstriped pantsuit with a plain white top. She again wore her Peace Sign Necklace from Sophie by Sophie and pumps from Gant.

Sofia commented saying that she will be staying in South Africa for a bit to visit Project Playground, the Charity she co-founded 5 years ago in Langa, South Africa.

Sofia's Outfits in Värmland

Sofia and Carl Philip just finished their visit to Värmland, their Duchy, where we saw 5 different outfits of Sofia's. Check out what she wore!

Day 1:

When arriving at the train station in Karlstad ahead of their 2 day visit they were greeted by the Governor of Värmland, Kenneth Johansson, and his wife Viola. Sofia wore a brown coat and top from Gant, earrings from Englebert Stockholm, and carried her Longchamp bag. Her black suede heels feature a kitten heel and bow on the toe. The shoes have not been identified. A very comfortable looking outfit for traveling.

After being greeted at the Governor's Residence, Sofia and Carl Philip changed their outfits and went off to Byamossarna Nature Reserve. There they were able to see one of their wedding gifts, a 3.5km long foot trail with a rest shelter. This pathway is named Heritigparets Vandringsled, which loosely translates to Duke Couple's Walking Trail.

For this portion visit, Sofia and Carl Philip wore coats from Stutterheim Raincoats, as it was a bit wet. Her top comes from Sandro and her boots from Tretorn. For earrings and a necklace she chose to wear one of her favorite brands, Drakenberg Sjölin.

After this they visited Marbacka where they visted Selma Lagerlof's house to learn about the first women to win a Nobel Prize in Literature. They were able to meet some of the people as they walked along the streets.

For this part of the day, Sofia had another outfit change. She changed into a black and white dress from Sandro and a pair of black sandals from Maje. Her necklace comes from Drakenberg Sjölin

For the final part of the day, the Prince Couple attended a dinner held by the Governor at the Governor's Residence. There they met various people from all around Värmland.

For this reception, Sofia chose a black dress from Zara which she paired with her Kurt Geiger nude Pumps. Her earrings were the big statement piece of the outfit and they come from Pipols Bazaar

Day 2:

On the second day of their visit, Sofia and Carl Philip started the day in Almentorget (Almen Square) in Karlstad where they took a boat to Mariebergsskogen. There they saw a display at Natrurum going by train to a Children's Vegetable Garden. There the head gardner was able to tell them about how they work with various groups of children to learn about gardening. Sofia and Carl Philip were also able to talk with some of the children who have been involved, which resulted in some adorable photos.

After lunch at the beach, they visited Ztorylabs. Ztory offers an "all you can read" service for digital magazines and children's books. After attending celebrations in Karlstad Square, they visited the Consumer Agency to get information about their activities. Following this, they went via guided boat tour to Kristinehamn. They heard the history of Kristinehamn during their trip and at the end were able to meet with children Kristinehamn's Canoe Sailors who told about their activities.
Day 2 only saw one outfit for Sofia, although she did change shoes halfway through the day. She wore a dress from Gant, in the same print as the shirt she wore when arriving the previous day. Her shoes also come from Gant, until she changed into her black bow shoes we saw when she arrived via train the previous day. Her earrings come from Pilgrim (thanks Anna!) and a UFO bracelet featuring a star. She also wore her Stutterheim Raincoat at various parts throughout the day.

With all the outfits, she wore her Project Playground Bracelet.
Which outfit was your favorite?
